Ensuring wine quality for Tenuta Sant’Agostino.

Challenges

Metrics to evaluate the quality of wine

Temperature

Air humidity

Exposure to UV and solar radiation

Soil temperature

Soil moisture and composition

Weather and wind

The Company

Tenuta Sant’Agostino has been operating in the wine industry since 2013. The company has long had a strong commitment to sustainability, acting on environmental, economic and social aspects.

The Challenge

The company was looking for a technical solution that could help them save resources and communicate to their consumers their high quality wine production process.

The Solution

Working with Enismaro, Tenuta Sant’Agostino was able to:

1. Leverage a comprehensive platform where they could visualize IoT sensors in real time to manage the vineyard and support decision-making.

They enabled:

  • Real-time vineyard data capture and monitoring
  • Improved irrigation efficiency
  • Reduced reaction time

2. Collect all data along the supply chain using Enismaro’s Blockchain capabilities.

This guaranteed the immutability of their data and allowed Tenuta Sant’Agostino to acquire an unprecedented level of transparency. The entire story of their wine products was made available to customers through QR codes inserted straight onto the label.

Consumers can now learn more about the final product, increasing both their awareness of what they are consuming and loyalty with the brand.

Case Study

Maintain a constant temperature

The temperature of a wine cellar must be between 10 ° C and 16 ° C. More precisely between 10 ° C and 12 ° C for white wines and between 12 ° C and 16 ° C for reds. Variations must be almost imperceptible. Increases or reductions in degrees can cause increases or reductions in the volume of wine, or a second fermentation which increases pressure inside the bottles.

Humidity monitoring in the environment

The humidity of wine cellars must be between 70% and 80%.

Too low humidity favors wine evaporation and oxidation and dries the cork stoppers. Excessive humidity, on the other hand, can cause formation of mold both on the label and cork.

Goals Achieved

Enismaro - Wineyards - Importance of IOT for a proactive approach

Importance of IOT for a proactive approach

There are many opportunities to use automated monitoring tools and sensors to collect and utilize weather, soil moisture and composition data, beyond what is understood through visual observations and note-taking. The use of sensors, automatic reporting of data collected, and driving decisions based on this critical data is incredibly beneficial.
